The Dutch ABN bank analyzes its clients’ financial transaction data and offers them financial products and third party products as a result. While offering financial products is legal, offering third party products is legally questionable at best. The bank practice came to light when a new father was offered by the bank a coupon by a company specialized in baby related products and the chance to win a buggy by that same company. When pressed for an explanation the bank acknowledged having targeted the new father based on his financial tranaction data.
