American Institute for Research defines deeper learning as: “The combination of (1) a deeper understanding of core academic content, (2) the ability to apply that understanding to novel problems and situations, and (3) the development of a range of competencies, including people skills and self control”. Bob Lenz writes: “In [a] quasi-experimental, proof-of-concept study, AIR investigated whether schools in the Deeper Learning Network achieve better student outcomes than local comparison schools, and found that the answer is yes”.
